Introduction

My name is Charlene Hardin and this ePortfolio represents the culmination of my efforts during my path to graduation. Over the course of my MLIS studies at San José State University (SJSU), I have come to see myself less as someone training for a single job title and more as someone building a practice at the crossroads of information science, instructional design, and user experience. This portfolio reflects that practice, because it is a body of work that moves between library settings, immersive and emerging technologies, and the everyday, human question of how people find, understand, and put information to work in their daily lives.

How this portfolio is arranged

The menu at the top of every page leads to the three main sections. Introduction returns you here. Competencies lists all fourteen core competencies in order, A through O.

Each competency follows the same structure: an introduction to what the competency means and why it matters, the evidence that demonstrates it, and a conclusion on how I will carry it into practice. The evidence is linked or embedded directly on each page, so documents, images and video can be viewed without leaving the site.

The links at the bottom of each page offer another way in. Accessibility, Immersive Learning, UX, Instruction, and Ethics gather the competencies around the threads that run through my work, so you can follow a single theme across the portfolio rather than reading in order.

The portfolio closes with a Conclusion and my Affirmation.
